The Lotus Eclat in general

Lotus’s founder and boss, Colin Chapman, at around 1974 wanted to change the company’s reputation as kit car builder and to enter the sports cat market, which had already shrunk after the energy crisis. So, he launched his latest sports car, based around his philosophy for low weight, achieved through the usage of fiberglass, just like his previous Spartan models.

However, in order to avoid problems of the past, this time he also used a steel backbone chassis, with reinforcements in the doors and the passenger cabin, creating a safety cage. Despite rumours of Ital Design and Giorgetto Giugaro having designed all the car, the truth is that he only designed the car’s distinct interior. It was launched at the 1975 London Motor Show, and named Eclat, French word for brilliance.

A few words about the car on sale

This car was imported from New York. It has catalytic converter, air condition, reconditioned interior, and the bodywork has the original color. Its carbs were recently tuned, brakes were serviced, all electrics are fully functional, and headlights expand and retract normally. It is kept in closed garage, with selected outings in the countryside of Peloponese, as maintenance usage.
