What can we say for the most successful British sports car, the MGB! Produced from 1968 to 1980, and together with the 6-cylinder, 8-cylinder and coupe (MGB GT) exceeded half a million copies. An advanced concept for the era it was designed (and with a little help in styling from Farina), it introduced the monocock frame in the kingdom of chassis, and is one of the first studies and applications of progressive crumple (deformation) zones in case of collision. It was successful also in the USA, where it sold half its production. Key points to its success were low maintenance costs, engine reliability, cornering and relatively good performance, combined with the well known torque of the in line 4-cylinder engines.
